Knowledge, Wealth, & Happiness
"Prefer knowledge to wealth, for the one is transitory, the other perpetual."
- Socrates
Understanding is knowing, knowing is experiencing. I have experienced this transitory existence of money and wealth my entire life. Ups and downs, mostly downs in my case, are the lifecycle of obtaining wealth. Since my lifetime experience has led me to knowledge of the temporary impact money has on well-being, I understand. I understand that money comes just as money goes whether the time be short or long, and the amount be negative or positive, it's a temporary fix to one's wants in life. Then those wants change, old "things" dissolve through the years and one is bred, trained, and manipulated to want more things that are unnecessary for existence. These things one feels will bring happiness, so one must make money to obtain them. However, the happiness is only temporary.
The beauty in the horrid never ending cycle of money for wants, is the proof that ultimately what everyone is searching for is happiness, I will come back to this. What I can't wrap my mind around is why it is common and exhalted to want more and more. Thus, never fulfilling our longing for true, pure, all emcompassing, neverending happiness.
Perpetual is knowledge. Nobody can take this from you. It's neverending in this way. You can share as much as you want with an infinite amount of people and never lose a bit, but rather gain a deeper understanding of said knowledge obtained. Knowledge never dissipates unless you want or allow it to. Knowledge, by itself, doesn't rust, rot, or mold. With knowledge you are in complete control. You intake what you choose, and dispose of what you choose just the same. Knowledge enhances your well-being. This is understood through experience. Well-being leads me back to happiness. Knowledge is an everlasting fountain of good. Good is an everlasting fountain of happiness. Happiness is a key to life. Happiness is what we all crave. Happiness is where our hearts are longing to be. Quality of life is a function of happiness. Since happiness is a function of knowledge we can then determine that your quality of life ultimately depends on knowledge.
Knowledge is a product of experiencing, knowing, and understanding. With all of these variables, it is simple to know the flow of happiness.
One is right to yearn for happiness, one is wise to yearn for eternal happiness. One is intelligent to understand eternal happiness is found through seeking wisdom and knowledge. A quick fix can only be obtained with money and wealth. A lifetime and beyond of happiness, one will only find when one can look past instant gratification.
